DIP (Documentary, Intimacy and Mise-en-Scène) is a yearly program of training, production and thought for 15 filmmakers and artists from all over the world, led by artist and filmmaker Manuel Abramovich, plus monthly visits from spAcial guests. DIP is a laboratory for artists but, above all, it is a refuge for people. A space for debate, for interdisciplinary thinking, and for critique of the ways we inhabit the world. In 2026,

I am a filmmaker or audiovisual artist with many years of experience. Can I take part?
Yes, the DIP group is made up of people with different backgrounds and experiences. We are particularly interested in the group being diverse in every sense. Filmmakers or audiovisual artists with longer careers who want to step outside traditional production methods and ways of thinking about cinema, open a dialogue with other artists and share their creative processes are especially encouraged to apply.
I am an artist from a discipline other than film and have no film experience. Can I take part?

What are the program dates?
The 2025 program begins on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 and ends on Wednesday, November 25, 2026. Over these 8 months there will be weekly 4-hour sessions on Wednesdays from 18:00 to 22:00 CET (Spain time), with a two-session break on July 22 and 29. The program has a total of 32 sessions. In addition, between October 8 and 16, 2026, the in-person residency DIP at the Border will take place at Sintrópolis (Alba Posse, Misiones, Argentina).
What are the sessions with spAcial guests like in DIP 2025?
Once a month, the group's journey is interrupted by the visit of a spAcial guest who comes to share tools from their own discipline, trying to find points of intersection between their own practices and those explored at DIP. The DIP 2026 spAcial guests will be Lucrecia Martel (Argentina), Brigitte Vasallo (Spain), Karim Aïnouz (Brazil), Marlene Wayar (Argentina), Leila Guerriero (Argentina) and Agustina Comedi (Argentina).
Do the sessions with spAcial guests take place outside regular class time?
Sessions with guests take place during regular class hours, although some may take place outside them, depending on the guests' availability.
Are the sessions with spAcial guests masterclasses?
No, each spAcial guest's visit is a four-hour hands-on workshop in which the guest invites the group, through very simple exercises, to put some of their ideas and methods into practice. During the online session, the 15 participants, each from the city in the world where they live, will do the proposed exercises, followed by group feedback led by the guest.
Can I take part only in the sessions with spAcial guests?
The workshops with special guests are part of the 15-participant group's yearly journey, and it is not possible to take part in them separately.
Are the sessions online or in person?
In 2026, for the first time, DIP will have a hybrid format. From March 25 to November 25, all sessions will be held online on Wednesdays. In addition, between October 8 and 16, 2026, the in-person residency DIP at the Border will take place in the Misiones jungle, Argentina. For the first time in the program's history, the artists who have worked online during the year will meet in person for an immersive experience in nature, in dialogue with the border and its people.
Are the sessions recorded?
At DIP it is important to take special care of the intimacy created in each session, so sessions are not recorded.
Can people of any nationality and place of residence take part?
Yes, people from all over the world can take part.
What language are the sessions held in?
All sessions are held in Spanish.
I understand Spanish and can communicate, but I don't speak it very well. Can I still take part?
Yes, a basic level of Spanish that allows you to understand and hold a conversation is enough.
How do the sessions work?
In each session, each participant's individual work, made in response to previously proposed prompts, is screened and then opened up to the group for collective analysis and exchange.
I have an initial idea for an audiovisual project. Can I take part in DIP to develop it?
Yes. DIP works as a space for experimentation and research. Although each participant may work on a specific project accompanied by the group, the aim is not a final product but a conscious journey through the different stages of research. Along the way, each personal journey may turn toward new places and projects.
I am already working on a film that is in the writing stage. Can I take part in DIP to keep working on it?
Yes. However, DIP proposes working from concrete audiovisual material: images and sounds. That is why, instead of talking or writing about projects, DIP proposes putting them into practice by filming and discussing those tests.
My film is in the editing stage. Can I take part in DIP to keep working on it?
Yes. DIP works as a space for experimentation and research, and some of those tests may include editing films that have already been shot and are being edited. Although participants may share the editing process of previously shot films and receive feedback from the group, they will also be required to carry out tests independent of that project. Along the way, each personal journey may turn toward new places and projects.
Is there an expected concrete result at the end of DIP?
The aim is not a final product or a successful result, but a conscious journey through the different stages of research. Along the way, each personal journey may turn toward new places and projects.
I am a film student. Can I take part?
Yes, as long as you have 3 years of artistic experience.
How many sessions does the program have in total?
32 four-hour online sessions, plus 8 days of in-person residency at the border. There are also 3 individual mentoring sessions during the year.
How many hours does the program total?
208 hours, between online sessions and 8 days of in-person residency at the border.
Is there a fee?
Yes. The 2026 program fee is 8 installments of 495 euros, plus a 300-euro enrollment fee.
When are the installments and enrollment fee due?
The enrollment fee is paid after being selected, when confirming your place. The 8 installments are due on February 10, March 1, April 1, May 1, June 1, July 1, August 1 and September 1.
Is the in-person residency included in the fee?
Yes, food, accommodation and local transportation costs are included in the fee. Flights from your place of origin to Misiones and international travel insurance must be covered and/or arranged by each participant. For participants who can obtain financial support in their own countries to cover their participation in the program and/or their flight to the in-person residency, DIP will provide an official letter of invitation or any documentation they need.
How long is the in-person residency?
The in-person residency lasts 8 days of encounter and immersive work, not including travel days.
What are the goal and dynamics of the residency?
The residency focuses on the in-person encounter among the participants of the DIP 2026 group. In addition to living together and collectively exploring the territory, in dialogue with the border and its inhabitants, there will be experiences, audiovisual exercises and activities to put into practice collectively the toolbox created during the first part of the program.
Are scholarships available?
Yes. DIP offers scholarships to those who need them: we want DIP to be a sustained training platform, accessible to artists from all over the world and from different realities, where financial means are not a limit to artistic research.
Thanks to the support of the Ama Amoedo Foundation, DIP 2026 will award 2 half scholarships.
In addition, DIP has formed partnerships to award specific joint scholarships (see the Open Call).
What criteria are used to award scholarships?
We especially encourage Latin American artists and filmmakers living in Latin America, and/or artists and filmmakers from historically marginalized and/or dissident groups living in any territory, to apply for scholarships. Scholarship applications will be carefully reviewed and awarded only to those who truly need them to cover the program and could not take part otherwise.
The country where I live offers grants to fund artists' participation in training programs. Could DIP issue a letter of invitation so I can obtain local support?
Yes. For selected participants without a scholarship who can obtain financial support in their own countries to fund their participation in the program, DIP will provide an official letter of invitation or any documentation they need.
How does the end-of-program production grant work?
At the end of the program, participants who have met the yearly attendance requirements —a maximum of 3 absences during the year— and have completed all the exercises and tests proposed during the year will receive a 300-euro production grant from DIP to support the continuation of their projects and research.
Is a certificate awarded at the end of the program?
At the end of the program, DIP participants receive a diploma of participation.
Is there a final screening of the work?
Yes. At the end of the year, there will be an online end-of-year screening, which may also take place in person.
How and until when can I apply?
The open call for DIP 2026 opens on December 3 and closes on Monday, January 5.
Information on how to apply can be found in the 2026 Open Call section.
How are participants selected, and by whom?
Applications will be evaluated by a committee that will carefully review all applications received and select the 15 DIP participants. The members of this committee will be Rosa Caldeira (Brazil, filmmaker, DIP 2024), Marlies Pahlenberg (Germany, artist and filmmaker, DIP 2021), Agustín Toscano (Argentina, director, actor and screenwriter, DIP 2021), Jorge Vaño (Spain, programmer and filmmaker, DIP 2023), Alejo Duclós (Argentina/Spain, curator and filmmaker, DIP 2024) and Manuel Abramovich (Argentina, filmmaker, director of DIP).
